WORK BELT
designed for electricians.
Design Goal
Create a tool belt that can hold the essential tools for electricians while having a few extra qualities that current tool belts on the market lack
Design Intent
Meet the Client
David is an electrician who is looking for a
tool belt with enough storage to hold all of
his essential tools. He wants a tool belt with
easy accessible pockets, lots of features, and
a belt that is comfortable to wear all day long.

Inspiration Board

enjoyed the pockets but seems too large and heavy

likes shape of the pockets

leather look is nice, not a fan of the color
deep pockets for storage of all tool sizes

Design Research
Must have space for...
After interviewing a few electrician's, I compiled a list of the top used tools that they use on a day to day basis.
- Screwdrivers
- Pencils
- Tape
- Tape Measure
- Pliers
- Voltage Tester
- Folding Knife
- Folding Saw
- Baby Level
- Circuit Finder
"Some belts are
too big and make
my back hurt. "
"I just need enough room for my favorite tools"
"Some pockets are hard to fit my hands."
"All I need is a pouch to throw whatever
I need in it."
Material Research

Leather:
- Durable
- Heavier
- Slightly more expensive
- Can withstand carrying heavy tools
Nylon:
- Cheaper
- Lighter
- Loses shape over time
- Durable
After researching both nylon and leather, the chosen material was a black finished leather. The durability, comfort, and luxury appeal of the leather were a few winning factors over the nylon material.
Ideation

Muslin Prototype
A rough mapping of dimensions and how the net of each pocket should look

A net that was traced onto the muslin to be sewn together
the nets were sewn together to make small and large pockets

The nets of each pocket sketched
onto the muslin material

Construction Process
Nets of the pockets were cut out
and stitched around the edges.

The pockets were added.
The main pockets
were sewed together.

Rivets were added.
